November Highlights & Fun Events

We hope everyone is at school tomorrow and next week so they do not miss the fun activities we have planned!

Tomorrow is our first monthly dress-up day.  Students and staff are encouraged to wear your best nature-inspired/animal outfit on Friday, November 6.  Think fall colors, shirts with pictures of animals, leaves, trees, beaches, etc. You do not need to go out and buy new clothes for these first Fridays.

Next week, we are starting our community unit.  As part of this unit, we are partnering with the Skokie Fire Department. Next week, firefighters will give a short presentation and then will take our students outside to see the fire truck, try on some gear, and take photos. They will stay outside until every child has a turn to explore the truck and get their picture taken.

We hope everyone comes to school next week so they do not miss the visit from Skokie firefighters!

Health Office Reminders

Hearing and Vision Screenings
We have a date for the Hearing and Vision screenings. They will take place on November 10th. The classes that will need to be screened are Mrs. Buchfink's AM and PM and Mrs.Sanchez's AM as well as any students who were absent or new since October 20. Please make sure to send your child to school that day so they do not miss their appointment.

Reporting Absences
Please make sure that you contact the school when your child is absent. Attendance is very important as it helps establish routine for your child and helps them retain their lessons as they continue on their path of education. If you do not report your child's absence, it will be marked Absent Unexcused. To avoid this, please use ParentSquare or Infinite Campus to report absences, or contact Lia Moreno directly. Below is her contact information. If you  see on Infinite Campus that is has been marked unexcused, please contact the health clerk to explain the reason for your student's absence.

Miles of Smiles Dental Clinic

The new date for the dental clinic is November 24th. We will be sending out a reminder the day before to the parents of students who signed up for this event. Please make sure to send your student to school this day, as we will not be having another make up date.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminders

  • Morning Classes ONLY:  We begin dismissing students at 11:20 a.m. Please feel free to line up in the circle drive prior to 11:20 a.m.

  • Pick-Up Requirement: Whether you are picking up your child in a car or walking up to the building, please make sure you have your assigned pick-up number displayed or ready to present. If you do not have your number with you, you will be directed to the main office to show a valid ID.
  • Please use the circle drive in front of the ECC for drop-off and pick-up as opposed to parking your car in the parking lot and walking to the front door. This is safer and faster.
  • Please form two lines in the circle drive—one on the left and one on the right.
  • Please stay in your car if we need to move vehicles forward toward the front where the stop sign is.
  • Please do NOT park in one of the handicapped parking spots in front of the building unless you have a valid handicapped plate or tag.
  • In the circle drive, please keep the white striped area clear for families and students walking to/from school and staff members walking to/from their vehicles.
During the winter, there may be fewer parking spots in the lot because of snow removal. Families of afternoon students who park in the lot may be stuck in the lot because of dismissal at OOJH.
