Principal's Message

Happy Thursday, Highland Families,

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather! Last Friday was Principal Appreciation Day, and I wanted to thank you, our students, and Highland staff for making it special. Your thoughtful emails and kind words meant so much to me. I am so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community.

We are excited to introduce Hawk Hooray Kudo Calls, a way to celebrate students whose kindness, leadership, and actions help make Highland a welcoming place for everyone! This recognition helps students see that their everyday choices—such as including others, offering help, and setting a positive example—make a difference in our school.

Beginning in November, I will make phone calls to up to six families each week to share how their children are putting Highland’s core values into action. In addition to receiving a Hawk Hooray card, recognized students will also be celebrated during our daily announcements, helping inspire fellow Hawks to care for one another and contribute to our Highland community.

It's Almost Time... Halloween Celebrations & Alternate Fall Activities

There is so much excitement in the building about tomorrow's classroom parties and Halloween celebrations!

Please let us know if you would like to opt your child out of the Halloween celebration; email your child’s teacher. We have planned a separate list of fun activities that they will be engaged in during that time.

What to expect at Highland School:

Costumes:
  •  Should not be worn to school in the morning. We will put them on in the early afternoon.
  • Please know that costumes must be school-appropriate; nothing violent or containing weapons.
  • Safety for all! A mask that does not allow the wearer to see is not safe.
Parties:
  • We welcome our families to celebrate Halloween with us! Our Hawks really enjoy it when their grown-ups can come, so we hope you can make it!
  • Parties will be in the classroom from 2:30-3:05 p.m. We have our staff members who are ready to support our children, so please do not come early.
Volunteering:
  • Volunteering at a Halloween party? Please pre-register using this link to help us get you checked in and off to the classroom faster! Check-in will take much longer for volunteers who haven’t pre-registered, so please complete this step before you arrive. Thank you for helping us make the day fun for our students!
  • Please remember that we are no longer keeping guest IDs to reuse. Every time you come into the building, you must go through the registration process. Thank you for helping us keep our hawks safe!
Parade:
  • We will have a parade at about 3:10 p.m., with all of the visitors going to the playground to be the spectators. If it is too cold or rainy, we will parade indoors.
Photos:
  • If taking photographs, please be mindful of students and families who have requested that their child not be photographed. To respect everyone’s privacy, please take photos of your child only. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Organic Life: Lunch Menu- Halal Clarification

We have received questions from our families about Halal lunch options. We wanted to let you know that on select days, the school offers Halal lunch options.

You will find them in red font on the school menus. Moreover, we wanted to remind our families that the Halal lunch options are not Zabiha Halal-certified. Thank you.

Cold Weather Clothing

As colder weather arrives, please send your child with a warm coat, hat, and mittens each day. Please remember that when snow is on the ground, our students need snow boots and snow pants to play in the snow.

We have outdoor recess when the temperature, including wind chill, is 15°F or higher and indoor recess when it falls below 15°F.

If your family needs assistance with cold-weather clothing, please let your child’s teacher know. Last but not least, please remind your child to bring home their warm clothes that they left at school. They will need them soon!

Thank you for helping our Hawks stay warm and ready for recess!

PTA Trunk or Treat Volunteers Needed!

We need some help volunteering during the Trunk or Treat: 1 for the voting booth, 1 to pass out candy, 1 to help check in cars beforehand, and some to clean up afterward. Thank you! Please forward to your Highland friends.

We could also use some candy donations if you would not like to volunteer or decorate a trunk this year. Email ptahighlandschool@gmail.com to donate candy.
