Together We Soar: Keeping Our Hawks Safe
Arrival and dismissal are some of our biggest challenges when it comes to keeping students safe at Highland. Our safety plans only work when we all do our part. Thank you for helping us create a safe, smooth, and welcoming start and end to each school day.
Please review the following procedures carefully:
-
Main Office Front Driveway: The front driveway is reserved for buses and staff only. Families arriving for breakfast should enter through the front door. Please drop your child off at the corner of Payne Street, where they can walk along the front sidewalk to the main entrance.
-
Drop-and-Go on Payne Street: There is no parking on the school side of Payne Street. This area is designated for drop-and-go only. Please remain in your vehicle and keep the line moving.
-
Crossing Payne Street: Highland does not have crossing guards, and school staff is not able to cross students. Please cross the street with your child at the intersections and use safe crossing practices.
-
Playground Supervision: Playground supervision begins at 8:30 a.m. For everyone's safety, students should not be on the playground before 8:30 a.m.
Before School: Playground Procedures
Beginning the day after the first day of school, Grade 1–5 parents and caregivers should not enter the playground before school. Please say goodbye at the gate and allow your child to make their way to their class line. School staff will be present to welcome and assist students.
Kindergarten and RISE families: During the first week of school, parents and caregivers may walk their child to their class line. We ask that you keep your goodbye brief and avoid lingering, as this is an important part of helping students build confidence and successfully transition to the school day. After the first week, we ask that you also say goodbye at the gate.
Dismissal
Dismissal will take place at the designated doors listed below. Parents and caregivers should meet their children at the door assigned to their child's class.
Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and commitment to keeping all of our Highland Hawks safe. When we work together and follow these procedures, we help everyone soar safely!
